Well, I do. Maybe digital art means something different to different people....many think only of digital art as art created in Photoshop...manipulation of photos or tons of filters to create abstract art or even the new photorealism many Photoshop users are creating...
Often overlooked when you hear "digital art" is art created in Illustrator--vector art (there are other vector art programs also. like Corel Draw). Vector art means no pixels like in photoshop...so you can change your drawing to large or small and keep the picture clear and sharp, whereas in pixelated photoshop work, you can't really make it larger or smaller--it blurs if you do.
Anyway, my thing is Illustrator...you have a pen, pencil, paintbrushes (as many as you want), colors, eraser, ruler, an art board....sounds like art tools to me. When I look at a piece I did, I see art---I see a picture created with artist's tools---it may be good, bad or indifferent, but it is still art.
When I graduated from high school and wanted to go to college (got side-tracked with hippie traveling....)I wanted to
be a commercial artist. By the time I got to college, 32 years later, it (that field) was now called Graphic Designer....I decided I still wanted to be one when I grew up and furthermore, decided my title would be Graphic Artist.
And that's what I am. I specialize (for work) in illustrated logos, which I see as little mini pictures, hopefully telling a story. I use those artist's tools mentioned before to create little teeny tiny pieces of art....digital art....and when I am not creating wee little pictures, I am drawing larger things, such as mermaids, or flamingos....or anything else I feel like drawing! See below....)
